Learning German at ETALL

At STUDIENKOLLEG ETALL you learn German from beginner level (A1) up to advanced level (C1), following the official European levels. Each level is a step of its own: A1 and A2 lay the foundations of the language, B1 and B2 make you independent in speech and in writing, and C1 prepares you for higher education and working life in Germany.

Teachers of the highest standard

A language course is worth exactly what the person giving it is worth. At ETALL, German is not left to amateurs: classes are taught by doctors in German language and by recognised teachers, for whom teaching German has been the trade for years.

This is no small matter. It is what makes your pronunciation corrected in the very first weeks, instead of letting you settle into habits that will have to be undone once you reach B2. It is what makes a point of grammar explained to you one way, then another, then another again, until it is understood rather than recited. And it is what counts on the day of the ECL exam, where your paper is marked in Europe, by examiners who do not know you.

Classrooms where work is possible

Nobody remembers much in discomfort. Three hours of German call for concentration, and concentration has to be prepared for: ETALL has equipped its rooms so that nothing is added to the difficulty of the language itself.

A desk and a chair for everyone

Every student has a place and a work surface, with room to open the book and the exercise book side by side. Nobody writes on their knees, nobody shares a bench three at a time.

Air-conditioned rooms

Heat wears people out and makes them switch off. Air-conditioned, our rooms stay workable from the first slot to the last — including the 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. one, the hottest of the day.

A television in every room

It is there to bring Germany into the classroom: news bulletins, real documents, online resources. You hear the language as it is actually spoken, and you discover German culture before ever setting foot there.

A new intake every week

There is no need to wait for a yearly start: new classes open every week. So you can begin your training as soon as you are ready.

In practical terms, you do not lose six months waiting for the next session. You call in at the office of the nearest centre, you hand over your two documents, and you walk into class straight away. For a plan that ends in Germany, every week saved on the course calendar is a week saved on the visa.

What does it cost?

Each course level (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1) costs 100,000 FCFA: allow 10 weeks of teaching for A1 and A2, and 12 weeks for B1, B2 and C1.

ETALL also offers a B2-level medical German course at 50,000 FCFA over 8 weeks, meant for health professionals who want to master the vocabulary of their trade.

Course books

Every level uses official books:

6,000 FCFA for the 2 books of levels A1-A2,

11,000 FCFA for the 3 books of levels B1-B2,

and 10,000 FCFA for the 2 books of level C1.

Documents needed to enrol

A photocopy of your baccalaureate transcript and a photocopy of your valid national identity card. That is all — enrolment takes a few minutes at the centre of your choice.

A question about fees or enrolment?

How are you assessed?

The teaching is serious and structured: during each level you sit three class tests, then a final examination that decides whether you move up to the next level. You are assessed on the five skills of the German language: Sprechen (speaking), Hören (listening), Lesen (reading), Schreiben (writing) and Grammatik (grammar). To move up a level you must obtain an overall mark of at least 60%. That rigour is what guarantees that every student has genuinely mastered their level before going further.

Discipline at ETALL

ETALL trains students bound for study and work in Germany: rigour begins in the classroom. Proper dress is required —

  • for girls, dresses must come below the knee;
  • vests, shorts, slippers and hats are not allowed;
  • and boys are not permitted to dye or braid their hair.
  • Punctuality is a strict rule too: more than 5 minutes late and the student is no longer admitted to the classroom, and goes back home.

Handling and follow-up of your file

As soon as you obtain your ECL certificate at level B1, ETALL can take over the complete handling of your file. These follow-up fees come to 350,000 FCFA and are paid once the administration has given its opinion on your level.
